Free tic tac toe
Free here means what people usually hope for: open the URL, place marks, leave when the bell rings. No email wall. No “create account to continue.” No store hop that dumps you into ratings and in-app currency. The board above is that bargain — classic 3×3, vs computer by default.
Free does not mean “we never show ads someday.” It means the game itself is not locked behind a checkout. Ads stay off until traffic justifies them; when ads exist later, they must not cover the board.
When
When to use
You searched “free tic tac toe” / “free online tic tac toe” and wanted no signup. You are on a borrowed laptop and will not install an app for nine cells. You bounced from a clone that gated the board behind a download.
When not
When not to
You only wanted the shortest play URL → play tic tac toe. You want Impossible locked → impossible. You want strategy copy → strategy. You need nested boards → ultimate.
Defaults
Assumptions
Classic 3×3. Runs in a current browser with JavaScript. No paid “premium AI.” Scores stay local unless you clear site data. Optional PWA only pins a shortcut.
Steps
How
- Stay on this tab; tap an empty cell.
- Use vs computer here, or open 2 player — both free.
- Change difficulty anytime on unlocked pages; New game for a rematch.
- Leave when done — nothing to cancel, nothing to uninstall.
Worked notes
Examples
- School Chromebook with no admin rights → open this page → play; nothing to approve
- Someone texts “free game?” → board loads without an account wall or APK
Watch-outs
Gotchas
- “Free” on other results often means free-to-install-then-ads-everywhere; our bar is board live, no signup gate.
- Clearing site data clears local win/loss counts — that is browser storage, not a paywall.
- We do not ship a paid “unlock Impossible” skin — Impossible is a difficulty, not a store SKU.

Controls
Quick controls
- New game — clear the board for a rematch.
- Hint — a cell and a short reason (not a cheat promise).
- Undo — step back a move while you practice.
- Vs computer / 2 players — mode pages lock the matching controls.
FAQ
Common questions
- What does “free” include — and what might show later?
- The board, AI levels, Hint, Undo, and local two-player are not behind a checkout or account wall. Ads are off in this batch. If we ever turn them on, site rule is they sit under the action rail — never painted over the cells. Free still means you can play without paying or signing up.
- Why do other “free” results send me to an app store?
- Those are download funnels. This page is ordinary browser HTML. No Flash revive, no “get the app to continue” step after the grid loads.
- Do you keep an email list from this game?
- We do not ask for an email to place a mark. There is no create-account gate on the board. Contact exists as a normal mailto if you need to write us — that is not a signup modal.
- I cleared my browser data — did I lose a paid unlock?
- There is no paid unlock. You may lose local win/loss counts stored in the browser. That is storage, not a subscription ending.
- Can Impossible be a premium-only mode?
- No. Impossible is a difficulty on the vs-computer ladder, not a store SKU. Soft sites sometimes fake “hard” labels; we do not sell a stronger AI behind a paywall.
